Skulky, drab dry-brush thrasher. Common in California. Timing: year-round. Prefers chaparral, riparian, parks and gardens. Large with a long, decurved bill; plumage is gray, buff underside, long curved bill, long tail. Largest thrasher. Swings bill sideways to find food in leaf litter. Diet includes insects and fruit. Oldest wild individual recorded was 9. Population ~ 0.25 million.
